email notification

appointment request comes in as (application/X-rimdevicecalendar) attachment on my blackberry storm 9530. The storm won't allow me to open the attachment to retreive the vital information about the appointment. Is anyone aware of a program for the storm that allows it to open this attachment or is there a setting that allows the scheduling software to send out the information like version 3 did?

Re: email notification

Hello Sam,
the ver 4 sends similar email text notification as the ver 3 did, and in addition it attaches the .ics file for calendaring software. I've tested this format with Outlook, Google Calendar and Mozilla Sunbird. Anyway, the text message should be opened just the same way as before.

Re: email notification

Algis,
Is this a possible solution from the software's angle? The software does sync well with the programs you indicated. The ics format unfortunately doesn't sync well with moble devices like the iphone, ipad, blackberry, android and so on. Just looking for a solution since alot of scheduling is done on the go and not in front of my desktop.
Thanks,
Sam

The Solution

Basically, in order for the blackberry to import the appointment the ICS file must contain a "METHOD:REQUEST" line. That is it. Normally forwarded ICS appointments will have METHOD:PUBLISH. Here are the steps to fix an ICS file.

1. Download the ICS file to your PC
2. Edit the ICS file using a text editor and add METHOD:REQUEST (or replace METHOD:PUBLISH with METHOD:REQUEST)
3. Forward the modified ICS file to your blackberry.
4. Success!

If you get an ICS attachment on your blackberry that you cant open then just forward it to ics@quickreply.info

You will get an auto reply back asap with a modified ICS file that you can open on your blackberry.

The only thing modified is METHOD:PUBLISH is changed to METHOD:REQUEST

Re: email notification

It integrates well with my smart phone except that the information doesn't detail the clients name.Could the subject line include the clients name? Also the time selected is 4hours off, the time zone issue may be defaulted to Greenwich time. I checked to make sure that the company is on the correct time zone but I don't see a setting for the client anymore.
Thanks for your continued help,
Sam
